Testimonials ...

Thanks again for your continued high quality editing – our wiser authors are beginning to ask for you by name!

Just a note to say thank you for doing such a good job on this report. The proofreader’s mark-up came back today and it was spotless! A real pleasure to see.

Prices for non-fiction editorial and proofreading services

I charge different rates for different types of work, which reflect the skill and experience levels needed to achieve good results. Estimating the actual cost is only really possible when I have seen the work in question.

After discussing what is required and looking at the document(s), I will provide an estimate, either as an overall fee or as an hourly rate plus the number of hours I think the work will take. My minimum hourly rates are in line with those suggested by the Society for Editors and Proofreaders. I am happy to be paid in pounds sterling or euros, or in other currencies by arrangement.

To help you get an idea of costs, as a rough guide, for an ‘average’ document, I would hope to be able to work at the following speeds:

  • Proofreading: 2000 to 3000 words per hour.
  • ‘Light’ copy-editing: 1500 to 2000 words per hour.
  • ‘Heavier’ copy-editing: 1000 to 1500 words per hour.
  • Substantial editing/rewriting/restructuring: 250 to 1000 words per hour.

However, as stressed above, a more accurate estimate can only be provided after seeing the material in question and discussing with you exactly what you want done.
